A Baby Quilt for Teacher

Today was our first grade class baby shower for their teacher. I finished the quilt just in time- 14 hours before the shower started, in fact! It was a really fun project, and a perfect way to get the kids involved in creating a unique, handmade gift for their teacher. Lots of parents commented on the great fabric choices, and I almost think our teacher was about to cry. Here it is, all ready to cuddle up with...

On display...

And the well themed back (cut from an IKEA comforter cover)...

I think the striped binding pulls it together really nicely. I just hope that the fabric markers we used hold up to washing....

Little Bits

I've been slowly, slowly piecing my Snowball quilt, but had to interrupt my progress to work on a quilt for my first-grader's teacher, who is having a baby next month. I was inspired by crazymomquilt's Teacher Quilt, and worked with our awesome art teacher to have each kid decorate a quilt square with fabric markers. The theme is sea creatures, since its their topic of in depth study this year. They turned out really cute!

I'm adding some Heather Ross Mendocino borders and just picked up this great red and orange Michael Miller Clown Stripe for the binding today. The class baby shower is next Friday, so I need to go finish this up!

The binding fabric is in the center, and of course I was tempted to pick up just a few fat quarters to add to my collection. I love these colors together so much! I almost want to use them in something all together, or maybe work them into my red & pink stars quilt or.... The possibilities are practically endless and all delicious!
