DQS5 Quilt Top

My first attempt had to be scrapped, but I just finished the second... and I think it's a keeper. I love these colors and wish I was keeping it actually. I hope my partner likes it!

Doll Quilts Underway!

I'm now working on 2 quilts at once- my mini-Leaf Crazy inspired quilt:

And I think I decided on a concept and fabrics for my Doll Quilt Swap 5 partner.

Oh, and then there is the pile of UFOs in the corner....

Ideas, ideas

I've stumbled across some fabulous and inspiring quilts recently. First, I am reading the current issue of Quilter's Newsletter, in which the Leaf Crazy and Joy quilts have me smitten. I just started a doll sized quilt inspired by Leaf Crazy, using fusible applique, which is a another quilting first for me.

I also just saw this fabulous Spiderweb string quilt linked from Crazy Mom Quilts. I know I've looked at this pattern many times on Quiltville, but these colors really makes it POP! My bag of strings is getting out of hand so I may have to put this on my to do list. (Photo from Flickr.)

Practice makes...

... a cute little doll quilt! I pieced this 13" x 18" quilt to practice free-motion quilting with my new darning foot. It was hard! Here's how much thread I ripped out just trying to get the tension right:

It's definitely far from perfect, but Baby Doll isn't complaining. (Although she might now that DD1 has claimed this quilt for her stuffed dog!)

I love the vintage-y flannel I salvaged from a thrift store scrap bag on the back!

Doll Quilt Swap!

I just joined the Doll Quilt Swap! There are some really amazing quilts from previous swaps on Flickr. The girls are excited to help pick out the fabric for our quilt, too. This should be fun!

Only Quilt-ish

I saw this photo mosaic as self-portrait today on a board I am on. You answer 12 questions and type your answer to each of the above questions into Flickr’s search. Select only the images that appear on the first page, choose your favorite and copy and paste each of the URL’s into the Mosaic Maker (3 columns, 4 rows).

Here are the questions and my answers that generated the mosaic above.

1. What is your first name? (alexis)
2. What is your favorite food? (ethiopian food)
3. What high school did you attend? (northwest)
4. What is your favorite color? (red)
5. Who is your celebrity crush? (benjamin bratt)
6. Favorite drink? (coffee)
7. Dream vacation? (bora bora)
8. Favorite dessert? (chocolate)
9. What do you want to be when you grow up? (urban farmer)
10. What do you love most in life? (family)
11. One word to describe you? (centered)
12. Your Flickr name? (none)

It's fun! I want to make one every once in a while and see how they vary.
